Senior Accountant

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Accountant, wishing to be challenged with the involvement of various subsidiary Company books in various industries. The Senior Accountant will report to the Controller and Accounting Manager, and will work with other finance team members in the preparation of month end and quarter end financial reports; and will take the lead in ensuring payroll is prepared and completed accurately for all employees. They will have working relationships with team members from Operations, Sales, and HR departments, all of which require strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal. Responsibilities include and are not limited to the following:


  • Set up and manage a full set of books for various industries including Retail/Manufacturing (single/multi-store) and property management (third party subsidiaries full cycle accounting)
  • Post journal entries and reconcile subledger to GL as well as various bank and credit card accounts, and inter-company accounts; troubleshoot and resolve variances
  • Post invoices and process cheque runs within approval process
  • Complete and submit tax remittance forms, workers’ compensation forms, and other government documents
  • Prepare CAM Budgets for the Lease year, and manage Budget to Actual monthly reporting and Invoice/Credit the proportionate share to Lessees; create appropriate reports
  • Calculate and post adjusting month end journal entries
  • Assist with the preparation of YE working papers, Financial Statements, and Tax Returns
  • Manage electronic and hard copy filing systems available for audit and reference
  • Provide assistance to other finance team members as required


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Fully proficient in all Microsoft Office applications and strong Excel skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy of reporting
  • Ability to prioritize and effectively execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Experience with a start-up or early stage company is an asset
  • Experience with Payworks, Quickbooks (Enterprise and Online), and ERP systems a plus

Education and Experience

  • BA in Business with an emphasis in Accounting
  • 5+ years’ experience in a senior/intermediate accounting role
  • 5+ years’ experience processing payroll using an electronic system; PCP certification is an asset
  • Experience working with a Retail and/or Manufacturing Company
